Dogmatic Opinion
I seriously considered leaving this word out. It is so uncommon today that it feels old-fashioned—perhaps Meiji-era old-fashioned.
Still, if I encountered it in a text, I think I would somehow understand the feeling. It sounds like a mixture of HYOKKO-RI and MUKKU-RI: something unexpectedly appearing where there was nothing before.
That intuitive sound impression may be more useful to a modern learner than pretending this is an everyday expression.
