Appears mainly in HOPPO-RI DASU, a casual form related to HŌRI DASU: to throw something aside, abandon something unfinished, or leave it unattended.

HOPPO-RI is not normally used by itself. It appears in forms such as HOPPO-RI DASU.
There is often criticism of irresponsibility in the expression. The person does not merely stop; they toss the responsibility aside and leave it there.
With a physical object, the image can be literal throwing or dumping. With work or obligations, that same careless motion becomes metaphorical abandonment.
