PICCHO-RI  ぴっちょり

Meanings

Describes an extremely small amount of water splashing onto or slightly wetting something; it can also evoke the sound of a tiny drop of water.

Examples

A little spray reached us during the dam tour and got just the tips of my shoes slightly wet.

ダムの見学で、近くに寄ったら、飛沫が飛んできて、ぴっちょりつま先が濡れた。

As we went deeper into the cave, we heard a tiny drop of water fall somewhere in the distance.

洞窟を先に進むと、遠くからぴっちょりと水が落ちる音がしたのです。

Dogmatic Opinion

Perhaps PICCHO-RI is not actually a word at all. I cannot find it in dictionaries or much of anywhere online.

What I do find is a lot of material about a woman called Picchorina.

My PICCHO-RI is essentially CHOPPI-RI with the sounds rearranged. Somehow, in my head, it keeps CHOPPI-RI’s idea of “a tiny amount” while acquiring moisture.

So the imagined meaning is: very little water.

For Japanese Learners

Slightly wet, a tiny splash, a little spray, and a single little drop may fit. This is the author’s playful, nonstandard formation rather than an established everyday Japanese word. The essential idea on this page is a very small quantity of moisture.
