BITTA-RI びったり
Meanings
Describes a person or thing staying tightly and continuously attached to, pressed against, or immediately behind another, often with an unpleasant sense of clinging or pursuit.
Examples
In the F1 race, the Japanese driver is right on the French driver’s tail.

There is often discomfort in the fact that something keeps following or clinging even though you would rather have some distance.
During the Tokyo Olympics, a skateboarding commentator became famous for saying BITTA-BITA to praise a trick. The expression suggested that the skateboard was making exceptionally deep, precise contact with the obstacle.
To my ear, that was more vivid than PETTA-PETA or PITTA-PITA. BITTA-BITA somehow suggested a deeper, stronger connection between the board and the course.
So BITTA-RI can be unpleasantly clingy, but the same forceful closeness can become praise in the right specialist context.
