② The original meaning of the word is to rain or get wet.
Like “Shittori”, the word has a damp/wetty feel to it, but it is probably not used very often.
It is used as ” We do shippori.” or “I want to shippori,” but it has a nuance that is surprisingly difficult to explain in another word in Japanese.
If I may be so bold as to express my own opinion, I imagine “going to a Japanese-style hot spring inn with a non-spouse and spending the night drinking sake.
It is not enough for men and women to eat and drink together.
Not necessarily sexually active, but there should be something close.
I feel like I can call tipping a glass of wine at the Ritz-Carlton “Shippori,” but I still feel like it’s not “Shipper”.
