PETTA-RI  ぺったり

Meanings

① The state of sitting without strength.

②   A thin object that lightly adheres to a surface.

③ A flat surface that seems to stick to the ground.

Examples

① When she heard that her husband had died, she became jelly and sat there on her haunches.

夫が死んだと聞いて、ぺったりとその場に座りこんだ。

② My son has a booming business of putting stickers all over the house.

息子は家中にぺったりとシールを貼るのがブームだ。

③ I like flatter shoes better than high heels because they’re easier to walk in.

ハイヒールよりも、ぺったりした靴の方が歩きやすくて好きだわ。

Dogmatic Opinion

The majority of objects that stick are in contact and grounded to the side to which they are attached.

An areal image, not a point.

Sitting down also feels like a substantial area of skin on the buttocks and legs is in contact with the floor.

In addition, the image is adhesive but not very sticky and easily detached.

Butt, flat shoes, stickers (sticky notes, etc.) can be released and peeled off quickly.

And it does not leave much stickiness on the separated (peeled off) mark.
