BISSHO-RI びっしょり
Meanings
・The state of being terribly wet.
Examples
・When I enter the sauna, my entire body is drenched in sweat within a few minutes.
サウナに入ると、数分で全身が汗でびっしょりになる。
・Don’t walk around soaking wet after a bath.
風呂上がりにびっしょりしたまま歩かないで。
Dogmatic Opinion
Usually, getting terribly wet is caused by rain, heavy sweating, or a bath.
While there are many ways to say “wet,” “Bisshori” is focused on the way water droplets cover the surface of the body, rather than on the clothes themselves.
Is it because the “Bishi” and “Hishi” sounds have a “fill-in-the-blank” type sound, such as “Bisshiri” and “Hishimeku”?
